Who are we?
The Zamanawe Women’s Project (ZWP) was registered as a nonprofit organization in 2003. It was initiated by grandmother and visionary, Winnie Thungo (far left), supported by the local Sowetan community. The project is aimed at identifying and empowering women, orphans, elderly and disadvantaged people within the community. It operates in an area faced with challenges such as limited resources, crime, unemployment, child abuse, HIV and Aids.
Our Vision is to create a community that supports the development of women, elderly and disadvantaged people.
Our Mission is to encourage women and the community as a whole to contribute to the economic development of the community.
Our Objectives are as follows:
To identify elderly people and take care of them (Home Based Care)
To provide basic craft skills for the community to be able to make a minimum profit
To provide basic counselling to affected and infected people
To promote arts work
Our target groups are women, orphans, elderly people, disadvantaged people as well as affected and infected people around the community of Meadowlands.
Presently we have 100 elderly people, 80 orphans, and disadvantaged people who benefit from our development work. As we are helping the elderly people the organization has been challenged by unemployment, poverty, lack of life skills and HIV and Aids.
